Before joining the firm, Carter clerked for the Manitoba Court of Appeal and for Justice McVeigh of the Federal Court, where he received the Justice Edmond Blanchard Law Clerk of the Year Award. Carter has worked for the Ontario Securities Commission’s Enforcement Branch and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Geneva. He obtained his J.D. from the University of Manitoba, where he achieved the highest standing in six courses. At law school, Carter served as the dean’s research assistant, competed in the Davies Corporate/Securities Moot and the Hockey Arbitration Competition of Canada, and developed his advocacy skills through three pro bono legal placements. He also spent four years collecting statistics for the Winnipeg Jets' coaches during the team's NHL games.
