Zain is an associate with experience in a broad range of commercial disputes. His practice covers all aspects of business litigation, including contract disputes, oppression claims, directors’ and officers’ liability, regulatory investigations, and administrative law.  He has appeared at all levels of court in Ontario and at the Supreme Court of Canada.  Prior to joining the firm, Zain clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada and spent a summer at a leading New York firm, where he worked on class actions and securities matters.

Some of Zain’s representative work includes:

  • acting for a director at the Supreme Court of Canada in a leading case on the oppression remedy; 
  • acting for minority shareholders in an arbitration against a widely-held infrastructure firm arising from a proposed plan of arrangement and amendments to a unanimous shareholders’ agreement;
  • acting for a public company in connection with an internal investigation into allegations of corruption;
  • acting for individuals and companies in various claims involving oppression, fraud, and breaches of representations and warranties in the purchase and sale of businesses; and

Zain was called to the Ontario bar in 2015.  He obtained his law degree from McGill University (where he was awarded the Aime Geoffrion medal).  Prior to law school, he obtained his B.A (Honours, with distinction) in Economics from Queen’s University.
