Rocco DiPucchio and Ian Matthews argued a precedent-setting application on behalf of their client, VMedia, in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on November 17, 2016. At issue in the application is whether a new television service being offered by VMedia, which uses the internet, violates Bell Media’s copyright in certain works broadcast on CTV and CTV2. The case, which was heard by Mr. Justice Fred Myers and taken under reserve, is likely to have significant implications for how Canadians subscribe to and consume conventional television programming. The hearing received considerable media attention, and an article published on the CBC News website reporting on the case can be viewed here: article
